Overview
When Dan Drazen and his wife moved into their two-story townhouse in Hooksett, New Hampshire in 2019, they quickly noticed challenges with maintaining consistent indoor temperatures. They often found themselves playing the classic game of one person turning the thermostat up and the other rushing to turn it back down. During the winter, cold air would leak into the 1,850 square foot home, especially near the attic and basement.
The couple had already installed heat pump mini-splits and understood how impactful energy efficiency upgrades could be. Dan wanted to address the drafts once and for all, so when a friend suggested calling Eversource-approved contractor Turn Cycle Solutions for an in-home energy audit through the NHSaves® Home Energy Performance program, he was all ears.
Goal
With a clear understanding of the benefits of energy efficiency upgrades, the Drazens wanted to stop drafts coming from their attic and crawl space, lower their energy bills and further improve comfort and efficiency throughout their home.

Outcome
Turn Cycle Solutions performed the no-cost home energy audit and identified several upgrade opportunities, including:
- Attic and Crawl Space Insulation: The team located where outside air was entering the home and sealed those areas; they also installed insulation to keep warm air inside during the winter and maintain cooler indoor temperatures in the summer.
- Technical Expertise and Guidance: Dan received expert support throughout, which included three days of attic weatherization work and four additional days to upgrade the crawl space.
After completing the recommended weatherization improvements, Dan and his wife reduced their total CO₂ emissions by over 10 tons, enough to power a single-family home for an entire year. Their home now maintains steady temperatures—and for the first time, they can actually agree on what that temperature should be.
