Overview
Jill and Frank Rosier wanted to lower their energy bills while improving comfort year-round. Owning a 30-year-old home in Hudson, New Hampshire, they were eager to explore all the possibilities and determine exactly where to begin.
After hearing about the Home Energy Performance program from friends, the couple applied and were quickly connected with Eversource-approved contractor Turn Cycle Solutions for a no-cost home energy audit.
Goal
The Rosiers’ goal was to reduce energy use, specifically in their attic and basement, where temperature differences were most noticeable.
Key Stats
- Incentive Received: $6,000
- Propane Reduced Annually: Over 200 gallons
- Total CO₂ Reduced: Over 50 tons(the equivalent of taking 11 gas-powered cars off the road for an entire year)
Outcome
Turn Cycle Solutions conducted a comprehensive home energy audit and identified opportunities to improve insulation, air sealing, ventilation and moisture control. The recommended upgrades made included:
- Attic and Basement Insulation: Additional insulation installed in both areas, significantly improving temperature consistency and reducing overall energy use.
- Air Sealing and Sill Joist Improvements: Hard foam board and spray foam installed around the basement sill joists and other key areas to limit drafts and air leakage
- Ventilation and Moisture Control: Bathroom vents rerouted to properly exhaust moisture outside the home, resolving airflow challenges that had contributed to attic moisture and mold
- Water-Saving Fixtures: Low-flow showerheads installed to reduce both water and energy use
In the beginning phases of the project, Turn Cycle Solutions discovered mold in the attic, which they fully remediated before moving forward with the recommended improvements.
Even with additional remediation work and a holiday season timeline, the project team completed the installation in just a few days with minimal disruption. Thanks to $6,000 incentives from NHSaves utility partner Eversource and 0% interest financing through a local bank, the project was also cost-effective for the Rosiers.
Following the upgrades, the Rosiers immediately noticed improvements in comfort, particularly in areas that had previously experienced temperature fluctuations.
“The whole process was incredibly easy. The improvements have already made a noticeable difference in comfort and knowing we’re using energy more efficiently is a huge benefit. We’ve already recommended the program to friends and several of them have applied.”
