Overview
After more than 20 years in her split-level home in Warner, New Hampshire, Suzanne Bohman had come to accept uneven temperatures and high winter heating bills. Built in 1973, the home had outdated insulation, struggling to keep up with New Hampshire winters. When a relative recommended the NHSaves® Home Energy Performance program, Suzanne was curious to see how much improvement was possible.
Suzanne was connected with Eversource-approved contractor Newell & Crathern who conducted a thorough, no-cost energy audit of her home. The audit revealed insufficient attic insulation and widespread air leaks, key contributors to the comfort challenges Suzanne had been experiencing for years. These findings set the stage for targeted upgrades that would make a noticeable difference.
Goal
Suzanne’s primary goal was to reduce her energy bills and improve comfort, especially during the winter months. She wanted a solution that felt organized and easy to navigate, offering real results without turning into a lengthy or disruptive project.
Key Stats
- Rebate Received: $6,000 – 75% of the total project cost
- Total CO₂ Reduced: 25 tons
- Gallons of Propane Reduced Annually: 85(plus half a ton of wood pellets)
Outcome
Newell & Crathern identified several key opportunities to improve efficiency, comfort and overall performance.
Completed upgrades included:
- Air Sealing and Insulation: Additional insulation was installed in the attic, and targeted air sealing reduced drafts and helps maintain more consistent indoor temperatures
- Ventilation Repairs: The team corrected a previously installed bathroom vent for better moisture control and reduced heat loss
The project was completed over three days, with teams working simultaneously in different areas of the home to minimize disruption. Suzanne noticed an improvement immediately; her home retains heat more effectively, temperatures feel more even throughout the day and her winter heating bills dropped significantly.
“Our heating bill dropped like a rock. It’s such a relief knowing our home is now well-sealed, energy efficient and ready for the seasons ahead. The difference in comfort and peace of mind is already noticeable. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to improve their home’s efficiency and overall comfort. Top-notch service from start to finish.”
