Residential Demand Response

By enrolling in a demand response program, residents can help manage statewide energy use and lower New Hampshire’s carbon footprint while earning rewards.

Residential customers of Eversource, Liberty and Unitil may be eligible for financial incentives by using their smart thermostat to reduce energy use during periods of high electric demand.

When you enroll your smart thermostat(s) with your utility partner, you can receive incentives for lowering electricity usage during peak times.

How does it work?

After you sign up, your NHSaves® utility partner will send a signal to your thermostat to pre-cool your home before a peak demand event. Automatically pre-cooling your home allows you to stay cool and comfortable while using less energy for air conditioning during the event itself. During the two-to–three-hour peak energy event, your thermostat will be automatically adjusted slightly above your original set point.

You can still maintain control of your thermostat and opt out of the program at any time.

Check with your utility partner to determine whether your thermostat is eligible for the program, and the incentive amount you may qualify for.

Don’t have a smart thermostat? NHSaves utility partners Liberty and Unitil offer rebates and discounts on approved models through the NHSaves Online Marketplace.
